Iran Seeks Russian S-400s Amid US Attack Warnings
Iran is negotiating for Russian S-400 air defense systems while preparing its population for potential US military strikes and nuclear facility attacks.
The Government of Iran is negotiating with Russia to acquire advanced S-400 air defense systems to rebuild military capabilities following strikes by the United States and Israel earlier this year. These discussions followed a meeting in Moscow on Thursday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who delivered a personal letter from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. While Tehran remains optimistic, Moscow may hesitate to finalize the transfer due to its own defense requirements in Ukraine and potential diplomatic fallout with regional partners.
Simultaneously, Iran has increased emergency preparations amid warnings of renewed US military action. Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akraminia stated that US attacks cannot be ruled out and warned that any such action would face a "decisive response" targeting US bases and interests beyond West Asia and the Gulf. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has instructed that military responses to attacks must be immediate and without geographical restrictions.
To protect its population, Iran has accelerated radiation protection measures, including the distribution of iodine tablets and the issuance of emergency instructions to civilians. These precautions are specifically focused on concerns regarding the Parchin Mountain nuclear facility. Additionally, Iran continues to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz, refusing to reopen the waterway until specific conditions are met.
