Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Government After Girl Gang-Raped on Bus
Rahul Gandhi accused the Indian central and Uttar Pradesh governments of administrative failure following the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl on a sleeper bus.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi criticized the Indian central government and the Uttar Pradesh government following the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl on a sleeper bus. The assault occurred on August 4, after the victim was picked up at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida under the pretext of a lift. The bus driver and conductor raped the girl during a 47-kilometer journey to Kashmere Gate in Old Delhi.
Gandhi questioned why security checkpoints failed to stop the vehicle and argued that administrative failures leave women unsafe in the capital. He specifically questioned whether there would be accountability for the Delhi Police under Amit Shah or the UP Police under Adityanath, suggesting the crime would likely have a curtain drawn over it.
Police reported that the bus was not in regular service at the time of the crime, having been taken from a repair workshop in Surajpur. The Delhi Police have since registered an FIR and arrested both suspects.
