Meta Platforms Inc. Expands AI Strategy Into Enterprise and Personal Agents

Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to diversify revenue through enterprise AI services and a push toward personal AI agents for billions of users.

During the company's second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg announced an expansion of Meta's AI ambitions, focusing on both enterprise services and consumer-facing personal agents. The strategy marks a shift to diversify revenue beyond advertising and subscriptions by selling APIs, business agents, and potentially compute infrastructure directly to large customers. Meta Platforms Inc. intends to first leverage its existing advertiser base, providing AI agents for customer interaction across messaging apps, with plans to potentially offer internal productivity and coding tools to external businesses.

Zuckerberg also detailed a strategic pivot toward personal AI agents, predicting that billions of people will use these tools within five years to manage health, finances, and relationships. He aims to differentiate the company by offering an out-of-the-box consumer product, contrasting with the more developer-centric approach of competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic.

To support these goals, the company is investing heavily in infrastructure, including a $14 billion data center campus in El Paso, Texas, developed in partnership with BlackRock. While business agents on WhatsApp and Messenger are already utilized by over one million businesses weekly, the scale of AI spending has led to a significant year-over-year decrease in free cash flow and recent stock volatility.
