BJP Condemns Rahul Gandhi Over Meeting With President Murmu

The Bharatiya Janata Party accused Rahul Gandhi of politicizing the presidency after he claimed President Droupadi Murmu did not deny allegations of electoral theft.

An INDIA bloc delegation led by Rahul Gandhi met with President Droupadi Murmu on October 9, 2026, to submit a memorandum demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The delegation accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of subverting the electoral system through "vote chori" (vote theft), citing irregularities in electoral rolls and the manipulation of Electronic Voting Machines.

Following the meeting, Gandhi stated he was shocked and stunned that the President did not deny the allegations, though he noted she requested proof of the irregularities. This reaction sparked a sharp backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Gandhi of attempting to drag the President into a "political street fight" and questioned why the delegation failed to present evidence during the meeting.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal and BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi further condemned the interaction, with Goyal describing Gandhi's remarks as a "blot on Indian democracy." The BJP challenged the Congress to provide specific evidence for its claims, arguing that allegations of EVM manipulation and electoral roll irregularities are contradictory. To counter the narrative of systemic fraud, the BJP cited the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections in Assam, where the NDA won a majority using ballot papers.
