Senate Confirms Trump Nominees to Secure Republican NLRB Majority

This action secures a Republican majority on the National Labor Relations Board, the federal agency responsible for enforcing labor law and overseeing union elections and complaints.

The confirmation resolves a period of instability for the board, which had lacked a quorum after President Trump fired Democratic member Gwynne Wilcox. This vacancy left hundreds of labor cases undecided. With the new majority, Republicans are positioned to undo previous policies that supported union organizing.

Republican appointees, including Chair James Murphy and Scott Mayer, have already initiated policy shifts. These include reviving rules that limit company liability for contract and franchise workers as joint employers and shifting the jurisdiction of a SpaceX case to another agency.
