Michigan Joins Multi-State Lawsuit Against USPS Voter List Plan

The Government of Michigan, joined by more than 20 other states and the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit to block a United States Postal Service plan to implement an executive order from Donald Trump. The federal plan seeks to establish a national eligible voter list and restrict the transmission of mail ballots exclusively to individuals appearing on that list.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel described the USPS rule as an "outrageous attempt to sow chaos, suppress turnout just weeks before the election, and disenfranchise many Michiganders who vote by mail."

In a separate legal matter, Americans for Citizens Voting — Michigan petitioned the Michigan Supreme Court to overturn a decision by the Board of State Canvassers. The board had rejected nine notarized affidavits, a move that could determine whether a voter identification ballot measure qualifies for the November election.
