Trump Establishes $6,000 Tax Deduction for US Seniors
President Donald Trump created a $6,000 bonus tax deduction for citizens aged 65 and older under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, established by Donald Trump, introduces a $6,000 bonus tax deduction for American taxpayers aged 65 and older. This temporary measure applies to tax years 2025 through 2028, with the first filings beginning in 2026.
Eligibility for the deduction is limited to seniors with incomes below $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for joint filers. The benefit phases out for taxpayers with a modified adjusted gross income exceeding $175,000 for single filers and $250,000 for joint filers.
This bonus exists alongside existing extra standard deductions. To account for inflation, the Internal Revenue Service increased these standard deductions for 2026 to $2,050 for single filers and $1,650 per spouse for married couples filing jointly.
