Donald Trump Bans 'Artificial Intelligence' Term in Federal Documents
President Donald Trump is banning the term artificial intelligence in government documents, replacing it with super intelligence to reflect American leadership in the technology.
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the United States government will officially ban the term artificial intelligence (AI) in all relevant documents and communications. Labeling the phrase bad and inaccurate, Trump is mandating the adoption of super intelligence (SI) as the official designation.
The move follows a September 29 executive order titled Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence, which directed the executive branch to update official correspondence and websites. To coordinate this federal policy, Trump established the Super Intelligence Force under the leadership of Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. The White House has further declared that those who continue to use the term AI are viewed as the enemy.
White House spokesperson Liz Huston stated the change reinforces the administration's focus on innovation and reflects the full promise of the technology. While Elon Musk has supported the rebrand and indicated his SpaceXAI division would become SpaceXSI, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has attempted to adopt the term during White House events, resistance remains. Most major technology companies, international governments, and media outlets continue to use AI. The International Monetary Fund specifically informed Reuters it would not change its terminology despite requests from the White House.
