Ukraine Launches First Homemade FP-7 Ballistic Missile in Combat
Ukraine deployed its first domestically produced FP-7 ballistic missile against Russian positions in occupied territories on Thursday.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine deployed the first homemade FP-7 ballistic missile in combat on Thursday, targeting Russian positions within occupied Ukraine. Developed by the company Fire Point, the missile has a range of approximately 155 miles, a maximum altitude of 37 miles, and carries a warhead exceeding 440 pounds.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the attack on social media, stating, "Next up: production". The deployment signals a strategic shift in offensive capabilities toward weapons capable of destroying hardened targets, such as bridges and bunkers. Iryna Terekh, Chief Executive of Fire Point, noted that "a homemade ballistic missile made in record time under fire was used on the battlefield".
While the launch places Ukraine among a small group of nations capable of producing ballistic missiles, industry executives cautioned that limited financial resources and constrained manufacturing capacity may hinder large-scale production. These constraints could make the initial debut more symbolic than militarily decisive.
