China Opens 140th Canton Fair Highlighting AI and Green Trade
China launched the 140th Canton Fair in Guangzhou, featuring record numbers of AI-integrated and green products to promote global trade and high-level opening up.
The 140th China Import and Export Fair, known as the Canton Fair, opened on October 15 in Guangzhou, marking the event's 70th anniversary. Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter emphasizing China's commitment to safeguarding the multilateral trading system and ensuring the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
Prior to the opening, Premier Li Qiang led a symposium with business representatives from nearly 30 countries, pledging to optimize the investment environment for foreign investors and strengthen intellectual property protections. The fair, co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, expects over 30,000 exhibiting companies and up to 340,000 overseas buyers from more than 220 countries and regions.
This session emphasizes innovation and intelligence, with 64 percent of exhibitors utilizing artificial intelligence and industrial internet technologies. New products and green products reached record highs, accounting for 23.2 percent and 26 percent of exhibits, respectively. Featured technologies include brain-computer interfaces, next-generation energy storage, and exoskeleton robotics from companies like RoboCT.
Officials noted that China's imports grew 22.3 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2026, supported by expanded zero-tariff treatments for 53 African nations. The event will run in three phases until November 4, 2026.
