Palestinian-led Parties Win 19 Knesset Seats After Voter Surge
Palestinian-led parties secured 19 Knesset seats after a surge in Bedouin and Arab voter turnout stripped Benjamin Netanyahu of his governing majority.
Palestinian-led parties won an unprecedented 19 seats in the recent national election, stripping Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies of their governing majority. The result followed a massive surge in voter turnout among Arab citizens and Bedouin women, particularly in the southern Negev region where some village voting rates tripled and overall turnout reached between 62% and 93%.
Mobilization was driven by grassroots efforts from the Alnashmiat network and the Zazim community action group, as well as reactions to home demolitions ordered by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Voters also cited a lack of security infrastructure in unrecognized villages during regional conflicts as a primary motivator for participating in the legal political process.
Netanyahu attempted to undermine the outcome by accusing Palestinian-led parties of fraud and foreign support. He also utilized AI-generated imagery to target Bedouin voters. Opposition leaders and activists rejected these allegations, attributing the shift to increased political awareness and a direct protest against government policies.
