EU Hosts 60 Nations in Brussels to Revive Two-State Solution

The European Union and 60 nations convened in Brussels to support the Palestinian Authority and advocate for a two-state solution amid shifting European and U.S. policies.

The European Union hosted a peace conference in Brussels on April 20, 2026, bringing together more than 60 nations to revitalize the two-state solution and ensure stability in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank. Co-hosted by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, the meeting served as a diplomatic counterweight to U.S. President Donald Trump's approach, which has sidelined the Palestinian Authority in favor of a technocratic committee and a Board of Peace initiative.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa used the forum to demand that Gaza's future administration be transferred to the Palestinian Authority. He called for unified governance in Gaza, the disarmament of militant groups, and a total Israeli withdrawal, arguing that security must not be fragmented.

The conference occurred alongside a shift in European political dynamics following the electoral defeat of Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán. This change emboldened Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to propose the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement over alleged violations of international law. While diplomats suggest a total suspension is unlikely to achieve the required unanimous vote, the bloc is instead considering targeted sanctions against Israeli settlers through a qualified majority.
