Canada Sends Largest Trade Delegation to India in 30 Years
Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu leads nearly 300 delegates to India to expand aerospace, agri-food, and clean technology exports.
Canada is deploying its largest trade delegation to India in over 30 years, with nearly 300 business delegates visiting Mumbai and Bengaluru from October 12 to 17, 2026. Led by Maninder Sidhu, the Minister of International Trade, the mission seeks to diversify exports beyond the United States and target sectors including aerospace, agri-food, and clean technology. The initiative is part of a broader Indo-Pacific Strategy to more than double bilateral trade to 70 billion USD by 2030.
The federal mission is supported by provincial efforts, including a delegation from Saskatchewan. Trade and Export Minister Warren Kaeding and Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff departed October 9 to discuss food security, energy, and critical minerals, while Cheveldayoff intends to meet with post-secondary institutions. This follows a February mission involving Prime Minister Mark Carney and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe that secured a 2.6 billion uranium supply deal for Cameco.
These diplomatic efforts coincide with ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, with the fifth round of talks recently concluded in Ottawa. The mission aims to secure new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses in one of the world's fastest-growing markets.
