Rishi Sunak Declares End of US-Led Global Order

Rishi Sunak and global leaders in New Delhi warned that the world has entered a volatile transition period marked by geopolitical instability and transformative AI.

Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak declared that the United States-led global order has ended, signaling a transition to a new, undefined system characterized by heightened danger and uncertainty. Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, Sunak described U.S. President Donald Trump as a "symptom" of this breakdown rather than its cause, noting that China has emerged as a peer competitor across military, economic, and technological spheres.

Sunak met with Blackstone CEO John Gray and Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran to discuss a "cocktail of risks," including 61 active state-based conflicts and systemic supply chain crises. The group compared the rise of super intelligence and AI to the combined impact of the Industrial Revolution and the Enlightenment, though they warned these technologies lower barriers for bad actors. Gray highlighted the existential risk of fiscal instability within Western governments, while Chandrasekaran argued that businesses must prioritize resilience over mere efficiency to survive systemic shocks.

The discussion emphasized that India and Gulf states now possess greater freedom to chart independent strategic paths. Sunak suggested India is positioned to be a "massive beneficiary" as Western nations diversify supply chains to reduce dependence on China for critical minerals and medicines. Additionally, the group noted a shifting financial landscape, projecting that technology companies could become larger net issuers of long-term debt than the U.S. government by 2027.
