Narendra Modi Delivers 13th Consecutive Independence Day Address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his 13th consecutive Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, marking his shortest address in four years.

Narendra Modi delivered his 13th consecutive Independence Day speech from the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15, 2026. The 75-minute address was the shortest the prime minister has given in four years and the fourth shortest of his tenure.

This shift in length follows a period of record-breaking addresses, including a 103-minute speech in 2025 and a 98-minute address in 2024. By speaking for a 13th consecutive year, Modi has surpassed the record of 12 addresses held by Indira Gandhi.

He continues to approach the all-time record for the most consecutive Independence Day addresses, which is currently held by Jawaharlal Nehru with 17.
