Amazon Pledges 40,000 Youth Roles to Combat UK Unemployment

Amazon will create 30,000 entry-level jobs and 10,000 work experience roles by 2030 as part of a broader UK government drive to reduce youth unemployment.

The retail technology giant Amazon has pledged to create 30,000 entry-level jobs and 10,000 work experience roles for young people by 2030. Termed the youth promise, the initiative targets regions with the fewest opportunities and provides comprehensive support throughout the job application process.

This commitment aligns with a wider effort by the Government of the United Kingdom to address the nearly one million 16 to 24-year-olds currently not in education, employment, or training. Prime Minister Andy Burnham described the current number of unemployed youth as an "economic catastrophe and moral failure."

Alongside the Amazon pledge, the government launched the TechFirst programme, which provides 10,000 tech sector work placements to secondary school students. This programme aims to reach one million students by 2028 and is supported by major technology firms including Microsoft, Cisco, IBM, Arm, and Kainos.
