IAEA Warns of Nuclear Proliferation as US-Iran War Escalates

The International Atomic Energy Agency reported Tuesday that Iran continues to deny inspectors access to its nuclear facilities. Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi stated that the lack of information regarding the location and status of near-bomb grade uranium stockpiles is a proliferation concern. The agency's board of governors will meet next week in Vienna to consider a resolution of censure against Iran.

This diplomatic breakdown occurs amid an escalation in a six-month war between the United States and Iran. The United States recently launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian targets to contest control of the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict began on February 28, when President Donald Trump and Israel initiated attacks to prevent Iran from developing atomic weapons.

While the two sides reached an interim peace deal in June, the agreement collapsed shortly after. This failure has stalled negotiations over Iran's nuclear program and contributed to the current military and diplomatic volatility.
