Senator John Curtis Urges Probe Into Donald Trump Jr.

Republican Senator John Curtis of Utah has called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate whether the sons of the current and former presidents used their family relationships for private financial gain. In a letter to Chairman Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Dick Durbin, Curtis requested subpoenas for Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden to examine potential influence peddling and foreign access.

The request follows reports that Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch and head of the International Boxing Association with ties to Vladimir Putin, funded a lavish wedding after-party for Donald Trump Jr. on private islands in the Bahamas in May. Curtis characterized the gift as corruption and cited concerns regarding Trump Jr.'s cryptocurrency ventures, international real estate deals, and defense contracting investments. To ensure a consistent standard, Curtis argued that the same scrutiny applied to Hunter Biden's dealings in China and Ukraine should apply to the president's son.

President Donald Trump defended Kremlev as a dear friend and stated that the funding was totally allowed, though he claimed his son would reimburse the costs. Hunter Biden responded by offering to testify alongside Donald Trump Jr. and other family members, asserting he had no foreign business dealings while his father was president.

Reactions within the Senate Judiciary Committee are split. Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Chris Coons supported the request, with Durbin warning that ignoring the matter risks being complicit in a coverup. Chairman Chuck Grassley stated he would take the request seriously and gather more facts before deciding on an investigation. A committee spokesperson noted that scheduling constraints make a hearing unlikely before the end of the year.
