US Officials Praise Taiwan Tech Ties Amid Trump Criticisms

US officials praised the strength of bilateral relations with Taiwan on August 31 during the SEMICON chip trade show in Taipei. Raymond Greene, the de facto US ambassador to Taipei, stated that ties between the two nations have never been stronger, specifically noting that Taiwanese investments are helping to re-industrialize the United States.

Greene highlighted significant projects in Texas and Arizona, including a US$265 billion investment by TSMC in Arizona. Bill Frauenhofer of the US Commerce Department added that the CHIPS Act aims to reshore semiconductor manufacturing and create American jobs.

These diplomatic affirmations follow previous criticisms from President Donald Trump, who accused Taiwan of stealing American semiconductor business. The Taiwanese government has described those claims as unfair.
