Donald Trump Claims Canada Is Destroying Itself via Immigration

President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that Canada is destroying itself by allowing millions of people to enter the country essentially unchecked and unvetted. In a social media post, Trump characterized the situation as a liberal takeover that will end very badly, asserting that these policies are driving high unemployment and creating problems that will soon be too big to handle. He provided no evidence to support these claims.

Former Canadian immigration minister Marc Miller responded by stating the comments were not worth dignifying and asserted that Canada maintains a controlled immigration system. Government data supports Miller's position, showing that temporary resident arrivals between January and July 2026 were 66 percent lower than during the same period in 2024.

Over the last two years, the Canadian government has actively reduced its permanent resident targets. The Treasury Board of Canada also introduced new limits on temporary workers and international students to manage the intake of arrivals.
