Zelenskyy Announces Land Gains Amid Russian Port Attacks

Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the recapture of 745 square kilometers of land while Ukrainian forces struck Russian naval assets in Novorossiysk.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian forces recaptured 745 square kilometers of Russian-occupied land and 26 settlements in the Oleksandrivskyi sector between January and August 2026. He stated the offensive was carried out "with precision – exactly as planned."

Simultaneously, Ukraine launched a strategic drone and missile attack on the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, damaging warships and halting grain terminal operations. Following a request from U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Ukraine agreed to avoid targeting non-Russian vessels and Caspian Pipeline Consortium infrastructure. In Russia, the Orenburg region implemented fuel rationing after a Ukrainian strike hit the Orsk refinery.

Russia responded by striking Ukraine's largest Danube port in Izmail. Domestically, Ukrainian forces face internal strain; soldiers from the 121st Brigade released a video alleging severe supply failures. Platoon commander Anatoliy Saichuk claimed some servicemen were "semi-conscious for several days due to lack of water and food."

To counter increased Russian ballistic missile launches, Zelenskyy has urged the United States to sell Ukraine 5% of its Patriot interceptor stocks.
