Trump Announces Lincoln Memorial Promenade and Triumphal Arch
President Donald Trump announced plans for a new promenade at the Lincoln Memorial and a Triumphal Arch across the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
Donald Trump announced plans to construct a new promenade at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., extending the pedestrian walkway to the Potomac River. The project will span two roads to provide access to the river and surrounding tourist sites. This development follows the completion of renovations to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which was repainted in a color the president described as "American flag blue."
The promenade is part of a larger initiative to reshape the city's monumental core. Other planned projects include a 250-foot Triumphal Arch across the Potomac River and a 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the former site of the White House East Wing.
In a separate development, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts ordered the removal of the president's name from the institution to comply with a federal court ruling. In response, the president stated he will direct a complete transfer of the center's operations to Congress.
