Donald Trump Touts White House Ballroom After Midterm Defeat
President Donald Trump showcased a new 400 million dollar White House ballroom shortly after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress.
President Donald Trump made his first public appearance following a landslide Democratic victory in the 2026 midterm elections by highlighting renovation projects at the White House. On Wednesday, Trump invited reporters to the site of a new 400 million dollar ballroom to witness the signing and placement of the final beam.
During the event, Trump focused on architectural details, including Corinthian columns and the quality of the marble flooring. He also praised his new helipad. The appearance occurred less than 24 hours after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress, with exit polls suggesting voters blamed the president for the cost of living.
The construction of the ballroom continued following an August 31 ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States. While the court allowed the work to proceed, Chief Justice John Roberts dissented, stating the project was likely unlawful. In response to the election results, incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer vowed to block the president's agenda with legislative razor wire.
