Jensen Huang Predicts AI Boom for Skilled Trades Jobs

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang asserts that artificial intelligence will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, specifically within the skilled trades. Speaking on Fox Business, Huang countered warnings from Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates regarding massive AI-driven unemployment, arguing that the infrastructure required for AI factories, chip plants, and data centers will drive a boom for electricians, plumbers, and technicians. Huang describes the current era as the largest infrastructure build-out in human history.

This demand is exemplified by the new OpenAI data center in Piketon, Ohio, where Nvidia has committed up to $105 billion. SB Energy, a SoftBank Group company, is leading the development and offering salaries significantly above the local median.

Despite these opportunities, a talent gap persists, with estimates suggesting 2.1 million skilled trades jobs could go unfilled in the U.S. by 2030. In response, leaders from BlackRock, Carhartt, Ford Motor Company, and Google have formed the Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades to expand training across 30 states. Jon Gray, President and COO of Blackstone, also predicted a significant boom in blue-collar employment over the next five years.
