Judge Orders Inquiry Into Trump Administration's Golf Course Plans

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes launched an inquiry into whether Trump administration officials misled the court regarding the reconfiguration of East Potomac Golf Links.

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes ordered a formal inquiry and appointed a special master to determine if Donald Trump administration attorneys and agency officials made misrepresentations to the court. The investigation centers on a legal dispute over the shutdown and reconfiguration of the East Potomac Golf Links into a world-class facility.

Court scrutiny intensified after President Trump posted on Truth Social that construction would begin November 15. This announcement contradicted earlier testimony from officials at the Justice Department, Interior Department, and National Park Service, who initially could not confirm the existence of such plans during hearings. The United States Department of Justice later filed a notice confirming the plans were real.

In a separate but related matter, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan held a hearing on a request to block the construction of a 250-foot memorial arch at Memorial Circle. Plaintiffs in that case argue the project requires congressional endorsement. Legal experts view both the golf course and the memorial arch as tests of the limits of presidential executive authority over federal lands in Washington, D.C.
