Bola Ahmed Tinubu Announces 2027 Presidential Re-election Bid

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday. In response to the bishops' calls for free and fair polls, Tinubu asserted that he would defend his mandate through a democratic contest of ideas.

Tinubu defended the Independent National Electoral Commission, dismissing opposition concerns about the body's neutrality as "crying wolf." He maintained that the commission has not intimidated any candidates. During the session, he also claimed his economic reforms are yielding results and that the lack of academic strikes indicates stability in the academic calendar.

On security and governance, the president announced an expansion of the armed forces to combat terrorism and banditry. He also clarified that the return of mission schools to their original owners is the responsibility of state governors rather than the federal government.
