Trump Attacks Supreme Court Justices Over Tariff and Citizenship Rulings

President Donald Trump criticized Supreme Court justices and predicted a legal loss regarding birthright citizenship after a ruling forced the government to refund billions in tariffs.

President Donald Trump launched a series of attacks against the Supreme Court of the United States on April 21 and 22, 2026, following a judicial blow to his economic and immigration policies. The president specifically targeted conservative justices he appointed, including Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch, calling them weak, stupid, and bad after a February 6-3 decision invalidated his global tariff policies. The court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not grant the president authority to impose such tariffs, a decision that requires the government to refund between $159 billion and $166 billion to businesses.

Trump described the tariff refund process as a travesty and an expensive slap in the face to the U.S.A. He further insulted Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, labeling her a low IQ person. While he praised Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Brett Kavanaugh for their support of his tariff agenda, he claimed that Republican justices do not stick together and have misrepresented their ideological loyalty.

Concurrent with the tariff dispute, the president expressed pessimism regarding a pending ruling on his executive order to restrict birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and temporary visa holders. Despite oral arguments held on April 1, Trump predicted the court would rule against the administration. He argued that maintaining birthright citizenship would cost the country its dignity. A final ruling on the citizenship matter is expected by June.
