ADC Warns Tinubu Against Postponing January 2027 Election

The African Democratic Congress warns President Bola Tinubu against using an Ebola health emergency to postpone the January 16, 2027, presidential election.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has warned against an alleged plot to postpone the Nigerian presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027. In a statement issued by Director of Strategic Communication Phrank Shaibu, the council claimed that President Bola Tinubu may attempt to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift the date using a current Ebola public health emergency as a pretext.

The ADC asserts that the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has stated there is no current reason to delay the polls. The council urged INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan to refuse any instructions to alter the timetable.

Demanding transparency, the ADC stated that any proposal to change the election date must be supported by published health evidence and subjected to public scrutiny. The party emphasized that the election date belongs to Nigerians and must not be rewritten behind closed doors.
