Chellie Pingree Alleges Trump Ads Use Illegal Taxpayer Funds
Representative Chellie Pingree accused the Trump administration of using taxpayer money to fund illegal campaign advertisements disguised as public service announcements.
U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree alleged that new advertisements released by the Trump administration are illegal because they use taxpayer funds to promote the president. Pingree stated that it is illegal to pay for campaign ads with taxpayer money and characterized the president as seeing himself as above the law and campaign ethics.
The advertisements highlight administration accomplishments, which the federal government defends as public service announcements intended to remind citizens to love their country. Other members of Congress have suggested the videos may violate the Hatch Act, which restricts political activities within the Executive Branch.
Separately, musician Jameson Baldwin denounced the administration for using his song Love Me in the advertisements without his permission.
