Donald Trump Pledges Healthcare Price Cuts and Permanent Tariffs

President Donald Trump announced a series of domestic and foreign policy initiatives centered on cost reduction and national security. The administration reached an agreement with nine pharmaceutical companies to reduce prices for flagship drugs for cash buyers and Medicaid recipients, a deal Trump announced during a White House event.

To address potential premium spikes following the expiration of COVID-era subsidies, Trump intends to meet with major insurers, including UnitedHealth Group Inc, Aetna, and Cigna, in either Florida or Washington. He proposed a healthcare model where the federal government provides funds directly to individuals to purchase insurance. While he stated he does not intend to formally repeal the Affordable Care Act, he asserted the law would effectively repeal itself because it has become too expensive for users.

On foreign policy and trade, Trump declared that his tariffs are permanent, claiming they provide national security and wealth. He suggested tariffs would fund "warrior dividend" payments for service members, though Senate and administration sources contested this, stating funds would instead come from military housing. Regarding Venezuela, Trump stated he would not rule out war and expects more oil tanker seizures following a recent blockade.
