Peter Obi Outlines Governance Plan and Defends Financial Record

Peter Obi pledged to reverse current Nigerian government policies and serve a single four-year term while defenders deny allegations of debts from his governorship.

Presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress outlined a governance strategy focused on reversing the policies of President Bola Tinubu. In an interview with Arise News TV, Obi criticized the removal of fuel subsidies, arguing the move impoverished citizens without providing visible gains. He proposed redirecting those funds toward agriculture, manufacturing, and small businesses to stimulate job creation.

Obi's proposed platform includes a commitment to a single four-year term and a ban on presidential vacations abroad. He also pledged to personally command security operations to address kidnapping and insecurity. While Obi continues to maintain that he won the 2023 presidential election, he stated he would concede a 2027 election if it is conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

Following these statements, Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, addressed allegations that Obi left debts upon completing his term as governor of Anambra State. Tanko asserted that Obi's financial records are verifiable and that the state owed no salaries or pensions at the time of handover to Willie Obiano. Tanko further claimed a disputed 2 billion Naira economic fund remained untouched, with a balance exceeding 2.3 billion Naira, and stated that Obi would withdraw from the 2027 race if proven that he left financial liabilities.
