Nyesom Wike Leads Reconciliation Talks With Governor Siminalayi Fubara
Minister Nyesom Wike led a political delegation to meet Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt to stabilize Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike led a delegation of political leaders to meet Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the governor's private residence in Port Harcourt on Sunday, October 19, 2026. The delegation included Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the chairmen of the state's 23 local government areas, and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to resolve a two-year political crisis between Wike and Fubara. The power struggle previously resulted in impeachment attempts, the October 2023 bombing of the state House of Assembly complex, and a six-month state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025, which led to the suspension of both the governor and the state assembly.
As part of the reconciliation process, Governor Fubara has declared support for the Rainbow Coalition and endorsed Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor for the 2027 general elections. While the engagement signals a move toward stability, the specific terms of the political arrangement and the future influence of Fubara's loyalists remain undisclosed.
