Opposition Leaders Criticize Tinubu Over FBI Record Dispute

During a national summit of opposition political leaders in Abuja, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed alleged that the president took an emergency trip abroad specifically to block the release of these documents. Baba-Ahmed also questioned the current state of governance, noting the simultaneous absence of both the president and Vice President Kashim Shettima from Nigeria.

He argued that leadership requires the courage to confront one's history and provide candid explanations, particularly regarding educational credentials, rather than using legal proceedings to shield uncomfortable facts.

The controversy extended to the religious community, where Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni criticized Primate Elijah Ayodele for advising the president to prevent the release of the FBI documents. The records reportedly concern an alleged drug trafficking case. Oseni questioned the morality of a religious leader encouraging the concealment of a public figure's past, expressing concern that the disclosure of such legal issues could damage the international reputation of Nigeria.
