US Tech Brain Drain Accelerates Toward India Over Visa Restrictions

A significant shift in global technology talent is accelerating as professionals relocate from the United States to India. LinkedIn data shows a 40 percent increase in technology professionals moving to India during the third quarter of 2025, driven by the restrictive "America First" labor agenda of the Donald Trump administration.

U.S. immigration policy changes include increasing H-1B visa fees to $100,000 and implementing stricter rules for early-career applicants. While Indian nationals typically secure nearly 75 percent of available H-1B visas, prolonged processing timelines and policy uncertainty have deterred highly specialized talent in fields like machine learning and cybersecurity.

In response, global firms such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple are scaling engineering and research teams in Indian hubs like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Other U.S. corporations are establishing in-house tech centers to bypass the unstable U.S. immigration framework; ANSR Inc. launched 38 such centers over the past year.

The Government of India has encouraged this migration through initiatives promoting semiconductor design, artificial intelligence, and deep-tech manufacturing. While proponents of the U.S. restrictions argue they protect domestic workers from wage suppression, industry leaders warn the trend undermines American innovation.
