Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan conducted an official visit to Islamabad on October 30, 2026, marking the first visit by a Singaporean leader to Pakistan in over 20 years. The visit commemorated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and occurred as Singapore prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027.
During bilateral talks with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the officials focused on diversifying their partnership by increasing trade and investment flows, exploring carbon markets, and discussing the resumption of direct flights. The leaders also addressed Pakistan's engagement with ASEAN and its role in the Gulf region.
A primary outcome of the visit was the exchange of a memorandum of understanding on disaster management cooperation between the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan. Additionally, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif accepted an invitation from Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to visit Singapore.
