Parties and DOJ Deploy Thousands of Election Monitors Nationwide

Democratic and Republican organizations and the Department of Justice are deploying tens of thousands of monitors to polling sites amid concerns over federal interference.

Democratic organizations, nonpartisan watchdogs, and the Republican National Committee are mobilizing tens of thousands of monitors for the upcoming midterm elections. Donald Trump has faced accusations from Democratic officials that he may use federal resources to interfere with the vote, though the president stated that monitors are not going to do anything other than watch.

Common Cause has trained 16,000 volunteers, while state Democratic parties are deploying 10,000 monitors. The Democratic National Committee also established a cybersecurity unit to track AI-generated misinformation. Simultaneously, the Republican National Committee is mobilizing nearly 22,000 poll workers and deputy state directors across 22 states to monitor for unlawful activity.

The United States Department of Justice is launching its largest-ever monitoring program, sending approximately 1,000 staff members to every state. In Oklahoma, federal monitors will be deployed to Tulsa, Muskogee, and Oklahoma counties. Local leaders, including State Senators Regina Goodwin, Julia Kirt, and Mary Boren, expressed concern that this federal presence could intimidate voters. To mitigate this, officials clarified that monitors must remain unarmed, cannot enter polling places, and must stay at least 300 feet away during voluntary voter interviews.
