South Dakota Opens Advance Voting for November General Election

The Government of South Dakota opened advance voting on September 19 for the general election scheduled for November 3. Eligible voters may cast their ballots in-person at local sites or through mail-in absentee applications. The state has set the voter registration deadline for October 19.

The election includes contests for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, governor, and the state Legislature. Voters will also decide on four proposed state constitutional amendments and several local questions. The South Dakota Secretary of State is managing the process through the Voter Information Portal and registration applications.

Mail-in voting will proceed without new restrictions after the Supreme Court of the United States upheld a lower court order. This ruling blocked attempts by Donald Trump to impose new limitations on the mail-in voting process.
