Trump Administration Executes Record Immigration Arrests and Deportations

The administration of Donald Trump has intensified immigration enforcement through record arrests and deportations. In July, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement apprehended 1,500 people and removed 1,100 daily. This crackdown follows the expiration of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and other nations, a move allowed by the Supreme Court of the United States in June, leaving over 1 million people vulnerable to deportation.

To facilitate these operations, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a directive in July 2025 that rewrote detention policies to deny bond hearings to many migrants arrested within the United States. Federal judges have repeatedly ruled this specific policy illegal. The White House also attempted to deport noncitizen students for pro-Palestinian advocacy, though a federal judge recently ruled those visa cancellations unconstitutional.

The human impact of these policies has been significant. The Brookings Institution estimates that more than 100,000 children have been separated from their parents during this second term.
