African Democratic Congress Slams Tinubu's 2027 Campaign Council

The African Democratic Congress criticized President Bola Tinubu's 2027 campaign council for including officials who have faced corruption allegations.

The African Democratic Congress criticized President Bola Tinubu's campaign council for the 2027 general elections, describing the body as a rehabilitation centre for corruption suspects. In a statement released Saturday, the opposition party questioned the appointment of former government officials who have faced financial misconduct allegations.

Specifically, the party named former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Betta Edu and former Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund Ngozi Olejeme. Betta Edu was suspended in January 2024 after an attempted transfer of N585 million from a public agency to a private account, while Ngozi Olejeme has faced prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The party challenged the Federal Government to provide transparency and evidence demonstrating whether these individuals and other council members have been legally cleared of their alleged offenses.
