Abuja Court Sets Date for Tinubu Election Eligibility Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled October 13, 2026, to hear a motion filed by Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to amend a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The original suit, filed in August 2026, seeks to disqualify President Tinubu and the APC from the 2027 presidential election. The plaintiffs allege that the APC submitted a forged National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate to INEC.

Atiku Abubakar and the ADC are seeking the amendment to correct nomenclature errors regarding INEC forms and to provide more specific details concerning the alleged fraud. President Tinubu, the APC, and INEC have opposed the motion, arguing that the suit is statute-barred and lacks legal competence. The defendants further claim the proposed amendments attempt to introduce a new cause of action or fix jurisdictional defects after the constitutional deadline for pre-election suits has passed.
