X Challenges Turkish Court Order Blocking Ekrem Imamoglu Account

The social media platform X is challenging a court order from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to block access to the presidential candidacy account of jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. The platform stated it is complying with the directive to avoid severe sanctions, such as platform-wide throttling, while simultaneously pursuing legal proceedings to protect freedom of expression.

The restriction follows allegations that the account shared misleading information capable of disturbing public peace. Imamoglu, a prominent political rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has been detained since March 19, 2025, on charges including espionage, terrorism, and defrauding public institutions of approximately $3.9 billion.

This action marks a continuation of digital restrictions against the politician; his personal account, which has over 9 million followers, was blocked in May 2025. Imamoglu and the Republican People's Party deny all allegations against him.
