Donald Tusk Reports Ukraine Suffers 27,000 Monthly Casualties

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told the Polish parliament on Thursday that the Ukrainian military is suffering 27,000 casualties per month. Tusk attributed these losses to a new Russian strategy and technical capabilities, specifically the deployment of jet-powered drones.

These figures emerge amid a lack of regular casualty updates from the combatants. In July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy estimated that 50,000 soldiers had been killed and 400,000 wounded since February 2022. Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov provided a significantly higher estimate, claiming approximately 500,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed or wounded in 2025 alone. Additionally, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that over 76,000 Ukrainian troops became casualties during the 2024 Kursk Region incursion.

To mitigate these losses, Ukraine has intensified its mobilization efforts and lowered the national draft age from 27 to 25.
