Labour Party Leads Polls as SNP Calls Early Election

Prime Minister Andy Burnham's Labour Party rose to 32% in a new Ipsos poll, leading the Conservatives by eight points.

The Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, increased its voting intention to 32% in a new Ipsos poll, marking a five-point rise from the previous month. Labour now holds an eight-point lead over the Conservative Party, which sits at 24%. These gains came primarily at the expense of Reform UK, which dropped to 20%, and the Green Party, which fell to 8%.

While Labour leads on the economy, healthcare, and the cost of living, Reform UK remains ahead on asylum and immigration issues. Satisfaction ratings for Andy Burnham rose four points to 35%, matching the rating of Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who also saw a post-conference increase to 35%.

Ipsos Director of Politics Keiran Pedley noted that British politics remains volatile and suggested the government's upcoming budget could influence these trends. Amidst this shifting landscape, SNP Deputy First Minister Jenny Gilruth called for an early general election, citing research that suggests the SNP would hold the balance of power in a hung parliament.
