Trump Launches America.gov AI Chatbot Amid Fact-Checking Glitches
President Donald Trump introduced a federal AI chatbot that initially contradicted his claims on the 2020 election and climate change before being updated.
President Donald Trump introduced a new government AI chatbot hosted at America.gov to streamline bureaucratic processes and provide official federal information. The tool was launched via an executive order signed on September 29.
Shortly after its introduction, the chatbot refuted several of the president's claims. It stated that Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the 2020 election and that official federal findings found no widespread voter fraud. The AI also contradicted Trump's assertions regarding climate change and historic inflation, despite Trump describing the tool as "damn good."
Federal officials adjusted the chatbot's functionality following these responses. The system briefly refused to answer political questions, citing a lack of political commentary, before a subsequent update allowed it to provide detailed answers while maintaining a neutral stance.
Separately, reports indicate Trump has used the Grok chatbot, developed by Elon Musk, to inform foreign policy decisions. This includes planning a mission to seize Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
