Yoruba Ronu Forum Accuses Olusegun Obasanjo of Backing Tinubu
The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum and Akin Malaolu accuse Olusegun Obasanjo of covertly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second-term bid for the 2027 elections.
The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum and analyst Akin Malaolu accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of covertly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's bid for a second term in the 2027 general elections. In statements issued on July 26, 2026, the group alleged that Obasanjo's public alignment with opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso is a smokescreen intended to mask efforts to destabilize opposition parties and undermine their viability.
These accusations follow a letter Obasanjo wrote to Chief Segun Osoba, in which he claimed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had mobilized former Speaker Ghali Umar Na’Abba to orchestrate Obasanjo's impeachment during his presidency. Atiku Abubakar dismissed these claims, suggesting Obasanjo is acting on long-standing grudges regarding Atiku's previous opposition to a third-term agenda.
Malaolu asserted that Obasanjo's actions are a deliberate attack against opposition parties in Nigeria to assist the ruling All Progressives Congress. Obasanjo has not yet publicly responded to the allegations from the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum.
