Zelenskyy Reports North Korea Deploying 50,000 Soldiers to Russia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that North Korea is deploying up to 50,000 soldiers to Russia, an increase from the 30,000 estimated in July. Ukrainian intelligence reports that a North Korean missile unit of approximately 90 personnel has begun deploying to western Russia, potentially equipped with six launchers and 120 ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy stated that North Korea is using the conflict to acquire military tools and licenses from Russia while gaining experience in modern warfare.

In response to the escalation, Zelenskyy requested air defense support and drone deals from South Korea. Ukraine is also preparing to purchase a weapons package from Turkey, consisting of 12 M270 rocket systems and 70 Atacms missiles, pending approval from the United States. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting urged allies to increase air defense resources for Ukraine to convert international goodwill into concrete assistance.

Military activity continues with Russian strikes on Pavlohrad, Odesa, and Kharkiv, while Ukrainian drones targeted the Novorossiysk and Belgorod regions of Russia. Accidental drone incursions were also reported in Moldova and Bulgaria. Amidst the violence, World Health Organization Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the destruction of a medical warehouse in Dnipro, asserting that attacks on health care must stop.
