North Carolina Voters Decide Senate and House Races
North Carolina voters cast ballots for a U.S. Senate seat and two House seats in contests testing the influence of Donald Trump.
Voters in North Carolina are casting ballots for a U.S. Senate seat vacated by retiring Republican Thom Tillis. The contest features Michael Whatley, the former Republican National Committee chairman, and Democrat Roy Cooper, the state's former governor.
Whatley has focused his campaign on crime and maintains a close alliance with President Donald Trump, who endorsed him. Cooper has centered his platform on the affordability crisis and raised approximately $49.6 million. The race is viewed as a test of whether association with Trump remains a political asset or liability.
Two House races are also under scrutiny. In the 1st District, Democrat Don Davis faces Republican Laurie Buckhout following redistricting. In the 11th District, Republican Jennifer Balkcom faces Democrat Jamie Ager. Balkcom was nominated after incumbent Chuck Edwards suspended his campaign following a House Ethics Committee recommendation for censure. Polls close at 7:30 p.m. ET.
