AI Hyperscalers Project 800 Billion Dollar Spending for 2026

Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft are projected to spend 800 billion dollars on AI infrastructure in 2026, driving massive growth for Nvidia.

The world's leading AI hyperscalers—Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., and Microsoft Corp.—are projected to spend approximately 800 billion dollars in capital expenditures in 2026. According to Goldman Sachs, this investment is ten times the spending levels of 2019 and has already driven roughly one-fifth of US economic growth this year. Nvidia Inc., currently the world's largest company with a 5.5 trillion dollar market capitalization, expects its revenues to grow by 70% in the next fiscal year as a result of this spending. Nvidia further estimates that hyperscaler expenditures could reach 1.3 trillion dollars in 2027, with global data center spending hitting 3 trillion to 4 trillion dollars by 2030.

To sustain this build-out, these companies are increasingly turning to the debt market. Apollo Global Management chief economist Torsten Sløk expects 250 billion dollars in investment-grade debt issuance by the end of 2026. This shift follows tightening cash flows, exemplified by Alphabet reporting its first quarter of negative free cash flow since 2004.

Wall Street consensus suggests that operating cash flow must grow from 600 billion dollars in 2025 to 2 trillion dollars by 2030 to maintain the current AI trade. Sløk warned that if this growth does not materialize, the risk is that the AI trade weakens, leading to cut capex plans and slower US GDP growth. Conversely, Morgan Stanley analysts maintain a strong outlook based on robust compute demand.
