US Launches Task Force Iron Gate to Block Iran

United States Central Command established Task Force Iron Gate to disrupt Iranian land-based weapons routes and revenue streams, expanding an existing naval blockade.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) established Task Force Iron Gate on November 7, 2026, to disrupt Iran's transport of advanced weapons, dual-use technologies, and sanctioned materials across its land borders and the Caspian Sea. Based in Tampa, Florida, the 20-member task force coordinates with the Treasury, State, and Justice Departments to block illegal revenue streams. This initiative expands a maritime blockade that CENTCOM estimates has already prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion in crude oil.

Concurrent with the task force launch, the U.S. military disabled the St. Kitts-flagged cargo vessel M/V Huda in the Gulf of Oman using precision munitions after it attempted to break the naval blockade. President Donald Trump also confirmed "minor" military strikes on Qeshm Island, the first such actions since the Republican Party's defeat in the midterm elections.

Iran responded by lifting a self-imposed 2,000km limit on its ballistic missile range, following directives from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khomeini for "maximum deterrence." The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) dismissed Task Force Iron Gate as "wordplay," while Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi claimed Iran has transitioned from a military importer to an exporter of aerospace products. Iranian officials, including Mohsen Rezaei, warned of a "devastating response" if the U.S. starts a full-scale war. Meanwhile, the IRGC Navy reported that two oil tankers struck sea mines near the Strait of Hormuz.
