Trump Cuts Greenhouse Regulations as AI Safety Concerns Grow

President Donald Trump eliminated greenhouse gas regulations while OpenAI and Anthropic face internal turmoil and warnings over AI safety and bioweapons.

President Donald Trump eliminated government regulations on greenhouse gases and dismissed concerns regarding environmental hazards of a warming planet. When questioned about the risks, Trump stated, "I tell them don't worry about it." His administration has reportedly used the term "panican" to describe critics of these policy changes.

Concurrent with these political shifts, the artificial intelligence sector is experiencing significant instability. OpenAI is facing a wave of resignations and terminations involving executives and researchers, including Zoe Hitzig, following disputes over a lack of safety guardrails and the rollout of AI-generated erotica. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman implemented an "adult mode" for such content. Financial ties between the two sectors were highlighted by the revelation that OpenAI president Greg Brockman contributed $25 million to Trump in 2025.

Other industry leaders have issued stark warnings. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei cautioned that AI will test the maturity of the human species. Similarly, Anthropic researcher Mrinank Sharma resigned after warning that AI and bioweapons have placed the world in peril. OpenAI CEO Matt Shumer also posted viral warnings regarding the rapid acceleration of AI capabilities.
